About Us

Philosophy

Our goal is to provide exceptional dental care for infants, children and adolescents. We are committed to leading our profession in the special oral health care interests of children and being the primary oral health care provider for the pediatric and adolescent population in the Southwest Virginia.

Working with kids and parents

We love kids and we want the best possible outcome for your child. Our number one responsibility is the safety and well being of your child as well as providing a child and adolescent friendly environment. Our office features kids decor, an open bay, private treatment areas and TVs, along with child and adolescent sized chairs and equipment. We want your child to have a positive attitude towards dental care and we will work to make the experience as positive and pleasant as possible. Our team explains every step of the dental care process in child friendly, age appropriate terms that help to make children not only feel comfortable but also makes them a part of their care.

You are welcome to be present during your child's treatment if desired. We have many parents who stay with their child for an entire treatment or check in on them from time to time. The only exception that we make is that parents cannot remain with their child while their child is under general anesthesia. You are encouraged though to be with your child while he or she is awake and going to sleep.

Dr. Sheppard's experience and specialty training places him in a position to guide you and your child through your child's treatment phases as well as growth and development challenges as they may arise. We make every effort to keep parents fully informed and encourage questions at all times. We want parents to have the same comfort level as we strive to achieve with your child.

Your Dental Home

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all children establish a dental home by the age of one year or six months from the eruption of the first tooth. We encourage you to consider Roanoke Pediatric Dentistry as your child's dental home. We are devoted to the prevention of dental disease and as your child's dental home, with early involvement and enrollment in a comprehensive and continuing care program, your child will have the best chance to be decay-free. In addition, with monitoring of facial growth and development, your child's orthodontic concerns will be minimized.
